DRY ICE BLASTING
Unlike conventional blasting techniques (grid blasting and glass blasting), dry ice blasting is an abrasive blasting technique that is a fast and efficient way of removing the pollution embedded in a metal surface. By projecting CO2 pellets (-78C) at high speed against the contaminated surface, the pollution will shrink under the impulse of a sudden and severe thermal shock. This will loosen it from the substrate that has a different expansion coefficient. Because dry ice sublimates immediately (transition from solid to gas), no additional pollution will be created, which is not the case with grid blasting. Dry ice blasting is therefore the ultimate technique for cleaning applications in which the substrate surface has to remain 100% intact, as is the case for the rotor blades of steam- and gas turbines, for instance.
