Dry ice blasting is, contrary to conventional blasting techniques (grid blasting and glass blasting) an abrasive blasting technique that allows a fast and efficient way of removing paved pollution on a metal surface. Projection of CO2 pellets (-78C) at high speed against the contaminated surface consequently the pollution will shrink under impulse of a sudden and severe thermal shock. This will loosen it from the substrate that has another expansion coefficient. Because the dry ice sublimates immediately (transition from solid to gas) no additional pollution will be created compared to grid blasting. Dry ice blasting is therefore the ultimate technique for cleaning applications in which the substrate surface has to remain 100% intact like for instance the rotor blades of steam- and gas turbines.
